Our Hometown

Lemhi County, located along the Lewis and Clark Trail, is the birth place of
Sacajawea. Salmon has a population of approx. 3,000 and is the seat of
Lemhi County. The 4,000 foot elevation and 9.39 inches of annual rainfall
effects four distinct seasons with the temperature ranging from sub-zero to
over 90 degrees.

The famous Salmon River of No Return is the longest river contained in one
state, is the longest undammed river in the continental United States and one
of only two rivers that flow north. The towns' main industries are recreation,
tourism, and agriculture. Recreational activities and opportunities in the
primitive mountain area include big game hunting (antelope, deer, elk, big
horn sheep, mountain goat, moose, bear and cougar), bird hunting, fishing,
boating on the Salmon, hiking, horseback riding, downhill and cross country
skiing, camping and the (sometimes lucrative) prospecting for gold!

Salmon is a self-contained community with a variety of shopping and medical
facilities. We have a brand new, state of the art hospital, qualified doctors,
dentists and optometrists supported by an EMT unit, search and rescue unit,
a hospice group and a volunteer fire department.  There are also 13
churches, several pre-schools, elementary schools, a junior high school and
high school with a new, state of the art track facility, adult education classes,
child development center, a nursing home and two shelter homes.

Our Airport provides scheduled round trips to Boise and is equipped with
runway lights that can accommodate executive jets and other small aircraft.
Air transportation is available by charter, including scenic flights.

On the edge of the Continental Divide and the Frank Church Wilderness Area,
there is a rare collection of big game, fish, fowl and geology. Full and friendly
services accompany unparalleled scenic splendor.
